Georgia, France move to next level of cooperation

Minister of Defence of Georgia Levan Izoria has signed an agreement with his French colleague Florence Parly on the purchase of an air defence management and control system.
The agreement was signed as part of Izoria’s visit to France.
He said the new contract allows Georgia to integrate into the NATO’s united air defence management and control system in the future.
“This would significantly strengthen our defense capabilities in the air defence component what would guarantee the security of our airspace,” Izoria added.
Levan Izoria and Florence Parly have also signed an agreement regarding the logistical provision of the military contingent deployed in the EU mission in the Central African Republic.
Izoria said Georgia stays devoted to its contribution which the country is putting alongside EU for maintenance peace and security in the Central African Republic.
Georgian Defence Minister will leave for France tomorrow to sign a new deal with the country for the purchase of air-defence systems. Izoria stated today that the Defence Ministry budget was increased by 20 per cent this year, which provides the opportunities to sign one more deal with France regarding the systems which will boost Georgia’s self-defense capabilities.
Georgia’s Ministry of Finance will take a loan of €82.82 million from the French Societe Generale. Of this money, €77.63 million will purchase the new air-defence systems while the remaining money would fund other risk management expenses.
Georgia’s airspace will be increasingly protected over the next two years under an agreement with France that includes providing the Georgian Armed Forces with new air defence equipment and personnel training.
10 year anniversary of Sachkhere Mountain Training School
Georgia and France are marking a significant milestone in defence cooperation – today marks the 10th anniversary of the Sachkhere Mountain Training School.
The French president has signed an agreement ratified by the country’s legislative body which will allow a certain category of Georgian citizens to receive temporary residency permits and work legally in the country. The agreement covers both the employment of Georgians in France and French citizens in Georgia.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze will visit France with a delegation of Georgian lawmakers on January 14-16. He will meet with the President of the French Senate Gérard Larcher and President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand.

Georgian Parliament Speaker told French lawmakers today that “both occupied regions of Georgia Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) have in fact become the closed military bases of Russia or service stations”.

Georgian Defence Minister Levan Izoria says that Georgia has already purchased all US anti-tank Javelin missiles which were required for the country and all of them have been transported to Georgia.
