The Georgian Dream ruling party says that the results of yesterday’s presidential elections carried a message to them from the Georgian people.
With the help of the elections our people sent us a message that many things need to be changed,” Tbilisi Mayor, Secretary General of the Georgian Dream party Kakha Kaladze stated at a briefing today.
Urgent and effective changes are necessary, where the interest of each Georgian citizen will be taken into account. We received the message,” Kaladze said.
Kaladze thanked the people for participation in the elections, as well as local and international observing organisations, law enforcers and the media for their roles in the election process.
I want to particularly thank our supporters, who despite the very negative election campaign of the opposition, cast ballots for the Georgian Dream supported candidate,” Kaladze said.
Kaladze stated that the elections once again prove that the ruling party is the guarantee that elections will not be fabricated in the country and that Georgians are able to cast ballots in a free and a transparent environment.
The Central Election Commission of Georgia has counted 99 per cent of votes and the results show that the Georgian Dream supported candidate Salome Zurabishvili received 38.6 per cent of the vote and her opponent from the opposition Grigol Vashadze received 37.7 percent of the vote.
The outcome means that a runoff will be held.
The CEC has stated that the runoff must be held no later than 2 December.
