PM Bakhtadze meets election observation missions Prime Minister of Georgia, Mamuka Bakhtadze has met with the election observation mission of NDI today to discuss the election environment a day before the presidential elections.
PM Bakhtadze has thanked the delegation members and emphasised the importance of their involvement in the elections.
He has reaffirmed that ensuring the fair and open environment during elections is of a highest importance for the Government of Georgia.
PM Bakhtadze has also met with the observation mission from the European Parliament last evening.
The democratic standards and fair environment during the elections have been discussed at the meeting.
The mission members have named hate speech as one of the major challenges in the pre-election campaign and expressed their hope that the presidential elections will be held peacefully.
The Head of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) Tamar Zhvania has stated that about 42 million GEL (16 million USD) will be spent on the upcoming presidential elections.
Few days before the elections presidential candidates Salome Zurabishvili, David Bakradze and Grigol Vashadze have emphasised the priorities and goals they would like to achieve in case of victory.
Georgia has 46 potential candidates for the upcoming presidential elections so far. The deadline for registering as a candidate for the presidential elections is September 28. Presidential elections will be held throughout the country on October 28.
Fourth President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili has announced his decision not to run in the upcoming elections at a meeting with students and professors at the Presidential Palace in Tbilisi today.
The ruling Georgian Dream-supported independent candidate Salome Zurabishvili has cast her vote at polling station No. 3 in Krtsanisi election district, in central Tbilisi, and said that had voted for a peaceful, united and democratic Georgia.
