Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani has held high-level meetings in Lithuania to further enhance political, economic, trade and other ties between the nations which cooperate closely for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
Zalkaliani thanked the country's parliament for the adoption of the resolution on the 10th anniversary of the Russia-Georgia 2008 war, condemning Russia’s illegal actions on the Georgian territory.
Zalkaliani held his first meeting with the Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis and also thanked the Lithuanian parliament for changing the name used for Georgia from the Russian name "Gruzia" to "Sakartvelo.”
Zalkaliani said that this step was yet another demonstration of Lithuania’s respect for Georgia.
For his part, Pranckietis praised Georgia’s decision to change Lithuania's name to its native name Lietuva.
Pranckietis reaffirmed Lithuania’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which was reflected in the unanimously adopted resolution by the Lithuanian parliament 10 years after the Russia-Georgia war.
