A night bus pilot project that will include two routes destined for areas connecting Tbilisi’s entertainment districts to suburban areas begins today.
The project is a part of Tbilisi’s night-time economy initiative.
Starting today on Friday and Saturday nights from 00:00 to 06:00 buses will run from Akhmeteli Theater to several destinations in the city centre where there is active nightlife, including nightclubs and other forms of entertainment.
The night bus passes by the main downtown stations and goes to Varketili underground on the opposite side of Tbilisi.
It’s important to have available public transport in certain locations during certain time periods. I believe it will be very convenient for young people who enjoy the nightlife scene as well as for tourists and professionals working the night-shift. The project was planned to cover most parts of Tbilisi, so passengers don't have to get to the central parts of the city", Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at city hall’s cabinet meeting.
The transportation fee for the night buses will be the standard at 50 tetri [about 0.19 USD].
On other days public transport and the subway in Tbilisi work until midnight.
