The Georgian Central Election Commission has refused to register 20 presidential candidates out of a total of 46 for the October 28 elections, as the candidates failed to present a list of supporters.
A presidential candidate must present more than 25,000 valid signatures of supporters to be officially registered.
The CEC announced that the issue of two other candidates is being discussed.
One of them is Mikheil Antandze, the presidential candidate of the State for People opposition movement.
The reason behind the discussion is that Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze’s signature was found on Antadze’s list of supporters and the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the issue.
