Renowned dancer, choreographer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov becomes honorary citizen of Tbilisi

Latvian-born Russian and American dancer, choreographer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov has been awarded honorary citizenship of Tbilisi.

Baryshnikov is visiting Georgia to perform in the Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre which was opened by the play Brodsky / Baryshnikov at the Kote Marjanishvili Theatre.

Brodsky / Baryshnikov is a one-man show based on the poems of Nobel laureate Joseph Brodsky, performed by Mikhail Baryshnikov.

“Baryshnikov is the symbol of freedom and we are grateful that he has chosen Tbilisi, Georgia among other post-Soviet states,“ Deputy Tbilisi Mayor Sophio Khuntsaria said after the play.

Tbilisi International Festival of Theatre is being held for the tenth time this year. The festival which is one of the most influential cultural events throughout the Caucasus and Eastern Europe will last until September 30.
