NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has assessed Georgia’s progress towards future membership of the alliance while Speaking at the Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C yesterday.

He said Georgia is making progress and NATO welcomes that.

“We will continue supporting Georgia and help Georgia as it moves closer towards Euro-Atlantic integration and membership of the NATO. We are also extremely grateful for what Georgia does for NATO as the country is one of the main partners contributing troops to our mission to Afghanistan. So Georgia is important for NATO and NATO is important for Georgia and we continue to strengthen our partnership,” Stoltenberg said.

He has also emphasised the NATO support towards Georgia in terms of implementing reforms in the fields of defense and security.

Stoltenberg has once again emphasised that NATO strongly supports sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia meaning the alliance does not in anyway recognise the presence of Russian forces in parts of Georgia.
