The Georgian Dream ruling party will allegedly hold a meeting of its political council on Sunday to decide whom they will support in the upcoming presidential elections, as the party has decided not to nominate its own candidate for the race.

The party political council is likely to meet on Sunday as tomorrow is the deadline for the registration of presidential candidates in the Central Election Commission. During the meeting the party will agree on whom we will support in the elections,” Vice Parliament Speaker Tamar Chugoshvili stated.

The Georgian Dream party leader Archil Talakvadze stated that the party has not yet agreed on a favorite candidate.

However, he said that the ruling team has already been praised by its foreign colleagues for its decision to give a chance to the opposition and independent candidates to win the October 28 race.

  •  39 candidates have already applied to the Central Election Commission for registration in the elections.
  •  Current President Giorgi Margvelashvili has refused to run for the second term.
  • The opposition believes that the Georgian Dream will support former Foreign Minister, now independent MP Salome Zourabichvili in the elections.
