Beka Gviniashvili has defeated another Georgian judoka Avtandil Tchrikishvili U90kg at the European Cup in Bratislava today.
The two iconic Georgian judokas have been competing against each other for qualification at the upcoming World Championship in Baku.
With more than two weeks to go for the World Championship, Bratislava hosted the last European Cup.
The World Championships will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 20 to 27 September.
Georgian athletes are among the world’s top judokas participating in the World Judo Masters in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. Having won the battle in their weight categories, Georgia now has three gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
Georgia has claimed its first medal at the Paris Grand Slam as the former Olympic champion Lasha Shavdatuashvili has won silver. Shavdatuashvili, 26, was competing in the men’s 73kg category.
Georgian athletes locked out the podium in 81kg category at the European Juniors Judo Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, as the team claimed four medals in total at the tournament.
Georgia’s Zebeda Rekhviashvili finished the European Judo Open Championship in Minsk, Belarus on a high after taking four match wins and the gold medal over the weekend.
Georgian judokas Beka Gviniashvili (90kg) and Gela Zaalishvili have won gold at Zagreb Grand Prix 2019. Georgia has won five medals in total in the competition, two gold and three bronze and took third place among teams.
Georgian judoka Beka Gviniashvili has won the Osaka Grand Slam 2019 today, defeating his Uzbek rival Davlat Bobonov in the under 90kg category. With 481 athlets from 87 nations, the Osaka Grand Slam is held in the Japanese town of Osaka on November 22-24.
