The French government has called on Russia to fulfill the 2008 ceasefire agreement with Georgia and withdraw its forces from Georgian territory, the Embassy of France in Georgia has reported.
Unilateral recognition of separatist regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries is a violation of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” a statement released by the French Embassy in Georgia reads.
Militarization of the Georgian regions as well as the creation of obstacles between the people in the regions and the rest of Georgia is unacceptable, hindering the reconciliation process,” the government of France believes.
The government of France vows to continue its support for Georgia for the peaceful resolution of conflict.
