Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze stated in Washington today that Georgia is expecting clear messages concerning the country’s integration with NATO from the upcoming summit next month.

The summit will also endorse certain initiatives related to NATO-Georgia cooperation in various fields, especially in defense and security”, Kobakhidze said during a US Foreign Policy Council event in Washington.

Kobakhidze praised America’s role in Georgia’s democratic development.

The US is a great supporter of Georgia and I believe that this support will be further enhanced,” Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze spoke about a recent resolution submitted to the US House of Representatives of the US.

It is of the highest importance that the resolution speak about the challenges of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine and offer specific support,” Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze says that Georgia’s major security challenge is Russia.

Russia remains the greatest threat to Georgia’s national independence, and, despite Georgia’s constructive approach to relations, has never even attempted to made any reciprocal steps to alleviate the security situation in the occupied Georgian territories – Abkhazia and South Ossetia. We see the deaths of innocent civilians in both occupied regions,” Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze started his meetings in Washington yesterday.
