A resolution 'On Security Challenges in EaP States and Enhancement of EU Role in Regulation thereof' has been adopted at the ordinary session of the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly on June 26.
MEPs and EaP states’ parliamentary members from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia and Azerbaijan also participated in the discussions.
"Five out of six EaP countries suffer from ongoing conflict. These conflicts, infringing on territorial integrity and sovereignty, hinder us in development. Security and challenges existing in our region are problematic not only for us. Peace and stable democratic development in our countries is directly related to peace, stability and security throughout the European continent,” The Chair of the EU Integration Committee of the Georgian parliament, Tamar Khulordava said during the discussions at EuroNest PA.
The resolution stipulates that security in EaP states provides the stability of the EU while existing conflicts hinder the realisation of common interests.
Moreover, the document recognises Russia as the source of destabilisation in the region, condemns its aggression ans calls on Russia to withdraw troops, to recall recognition of breakaway regions and to adhere to international law.
On the other hand, the resolution calls on EU to be actively involved in conflict resolution, as well as to enhance cooperation with partners in defence and security policy.
