Batumi hosts 15th international conference of ‘Georgia’s European Way’

President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, and Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission Christian Danielsson opened the international conference in Batumi today.
Georgia is a leading country of the European process, President Margvelashvili said, adding that the resolution on Russian aggression which is going to be adopted by the European Parliament will clarify a number of issues.
"Those who observe the dynamic process of policy making in Georgia will see how actual Euro integration issues are in our daily agenda. They will see how important Euro integration is for Georgia and that the country is a leader in this process,” President Margvelashvili said.
On the other hand, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikheil Janlidze mentioned that Georgia has been never so close to the European family as today. He also said that Georgia is perceived as a leader in European transformation process highlighting the importance of considering other countries’ experience as well.
"Recently, the Balkan countries have received a clear message from the EU that the open door policy and enlargement mechanism is still in force for them. This is also a clear message for Georgia and it is important to have more information about the way the Balkan countries are going through to the EU,” Janelidze said.
The international conference Georgia’s European Way is an important platform where partners are informed about the country’s reforms while the Georgian side has a good opportunity to share other countries’ best practices.
The high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and more than thirty European Parliament members from eight different political groups took part in discussions on Russian aggression in Georgia yesterday.
Georgia expects the European Parliament to once again condemn Russian aggression in a resolution following discussions on the results of Russian occupation of Georgian territories planned for today, according to the website of the European Parliament.
The government of Georgia has initiated the elaboration of the EU integration roadmap, which will ensure European integration at a faster rate.
Georgia’s capital of Tbilisi is hosting the European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) 2018 on June 4-6. Over 500 guests representing European countries and European structures are now in Tbilisi to discuss all the issues related to internet management and the development of digital economy
The Batumi 16th International Conference, dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the EU’s Eastern Partnership initiative, will open tomorrow with an “unprecedented number” of foreign guests, including the president of the European Council Donald Tusk, Georgian Foreign Ministry reports.
