UNWTO’s Georgian head Zurab Pololikashvili opens major trade fair in Madrid

Georgian Zurab Pololikashvili, the new Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has opened a major trade fair in Madrid, Spain with H.M Felipe VI King of Spain and H.M Letizia Queen of Spain.

The International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2018, is taking place from January 17-21 at Feria de Madrid.

FITUR is a global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound Ibero American markets.

In 2017 FITUR has beaten the participation record with 9,893 exhibiting companies from 165 countries/regions, 135,858 trade participants and 107,213 people from the general public.

Among the participation figures of note was an 18.8 percent increase in international trade visitors compared to the previous staging.

Moreover the volume of agendas organised by FITUR within the different business-to-business (B2B) has reached 6,800 business appointments.

UNWTO will be undertaking a number of events and activities at FITUR 2018 in Madrid.
