What were Georgia’s main exports and imports in Jan-Apr 2018?

Copper ores and concentrates, ferro-alloys and motor cars were Georgia’s top exported commodities in January-April 2018, shows the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

More specifically, between January and April of 2018, Georgia exported:

  • Copper ores and concentrates - worth $135 million, or 14 percent of total exports
  • Ferro-alloys - worth $114.8 million, or 11.9 percent of total exports
  • Motor cars - worth $90.2 million, or 9.4 percent of total exports

In the same period of this year Georgia's top imported commodities were:

  • Petroleum and petroleum oils (worth $251.5 million, or 8.9 percent of total imports)
  • Motor cars (worth $164.5 million or 5.8 percent of total imports)
  • Petroleum gases (worth $151.6 million, or 5.4 percent of total imports)

Which countries are Georgia’s top trade partners?

Turkey, Russia and China are Georgia’s top trade partners this year, says Geostat.

Georgia’s top 10 trade partners in January-April 2018 made for 66.6 percent of the country’s total trade turnover.

These following countries are filling the top three spots:

  1. Turkey ($547.6 million)
  2. Russia ($421.8 million)
  3. Azerbaijan ($363.3 million)

Trade with EU countries

Trade turnover with European Union (EU) countries increased by 25.7 percent year-on-year (y/y) and amounted to $1.07 billion, said Geostat.

Exports were worth $241.8 million (23.7 percent higher), while imports reached $828.4 million (06.3 percent higher).

Trade with CIS countries

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries totalled $1.32 billion in January-April 2018 – 28.6 percent higher compared to the same period of 2017.

Exports were worth $430 million (45.6 percent higher) while imports equalled $890.5 million (21.7 percent higher).

Georgia’s external trade grew by 22.2 percent this year and reached $3.78 billion in January-April 2018.
