Georgian Delegation meets with Australian Foreign Minister

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania met with the Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.

Political, economic and sectoral co-operation were among the issues the parties discussed during their meeting in the Australian capital of Canberra.

Jalagania and Bishop also expressed their intention to further exchange high-level visits between the two countries.

Australian Foreign Minister Bishop said Georgia and Australia have both made important contributions to strengthening international peace and security.

Jalagania is paying a visit to the Commonwealth of Australia to attend the 3rd round of bilateral consultations between Georgia and Australia. Together with the Georgian delegation he met with the representatives of Australia’s Parliamentary Group of Friends who would like to visit Georgia in 2017.

This year Georgia and Australia are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. A number of activities have been scheduled within the framework of this special anniversary.

Within their visit, the Georgian delegation also met with the heads of the diplomatic missions of Fiji, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Solomon Islands. The representatives of the Pacific countries received information on the ongoing reforms in Georgia, as well as on the priorities of Georgia’s foreign policy.

The Georgian delegation expressed their readiness to share Georgia’s experience in good governance, doing business and customs inspection.
