Georgian Foreign Minister: Stability is crucial for France before elections

No Georgian citizens have been injured in last night’s attack in Paris but the Georgian Foreign Ministry has released hotline numbers for those who might need help.

Georgian citizens currently in France, if needed, can call the Georgian Embassy in Paris through a hotline number: +33 7 83 31 86 89.

Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze said that it is very important for France now to maintain stability and peace days before the presidential elections. He believed French people must be able to make their decision in a peaceful environment.

"Sadly, we see that the Islamic State is still active within Europe. France has been on high alert since 2015 and a lot of innocent people have been killed in terror attacks”, Janelidze said.

"We wish for peace and stability for France, our partner and very important friend”.

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili took to Twitter to condemn the attack.

One policeman was shot dead and two others wounded in central Paris, with the attacker killed by security forces.

A lone gunman opened fire before being killed as he fled the scene, police said.

President Francois Hollande said that he was convinced the attack was "terrorist-related".

So-called Islamic State (IS) said that one of its "fighters" had carried out the attack.
