Georgia’s recent progress discussed as Georgian, French, Swedish PMs meet in Brussels

Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili has met with his French counterpart, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in Brussels today.

Bilateral cooperation, Georgia’s progress toward European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and the further advancement of the Eastern Partnership format were the key issues discussed during the meeting.

EU leaders are in Brussels today to participate in the fifth Eastern Partnership summit. Apart from the main event, officials are making time to hold bilateral meetings too.

At the meeting of Kvirikashvili and Philippe, special attention was paid to Georgia’s implemented and ongoing reforms, and the positive dynamics of developing France-Georgia cooperation in a number of areas were emphasised.

The parties also discussed the Open Government Partnership, with Georgia accepting its chairmanship from France. Kvirikashvili discussed Georgia’s chairmanship priorities with his French counterpart.

Philippe emphasised France’s unwavering support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Georgian PM also met with Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

The parties discussed the key issues of bilateral relations, the advancement of cooperation in different areas, and the issues to be discussed at the Eastern Partnership Summit.

Kvirikashvili thanked the Swedish Government for its support under development cooperation.

The parties commended the advancement of the two countries’ bilateral economic relations, pointing out that, in the first nine months of 2017, the trade turnover with Sweden increased by 38.5 percent.

The Georgian Prime Minister also provided his Swedish counterpart with information about Georgia’s investment climate, implemented reforms, and leading positions in international rankings.

The parties also discussed the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories. Lofven reaffirmed support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
