Georgia is getting ready for a rich orange season in northwestern Adjara region.

The typical citrus season runs from November to January and in these months about 35,000-40,000 tonnes of citrus fruit are expected to be picked and exported.

The Government of Georgia has been working hard to diversify export markets and sell Georgian citrus further afield.

Central Asian republics are among the new markets that are interested in importing Georgian citrus fruits, announced the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara.

As in previous years the government will help farmers and industry players by opening special coordination centres or launch a hotline where they can get a range of support and information.

Citrus fruits are also being grown in Georgia’s western Guria region, which hosts a number of citrus plantations.
