Canada commends democratic reforms in Georgia

Canada commends the democratic reforms that the Government of Georgia is implementing, says a Canadian official.

Canadian Ambassador to Germany and special envoy to the European Union, Canada’s former Foreign Minister Stephane Dion is paying a two-day official visit to Tbilisi.

Dion met with Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili today and voiced Canada’s firm support for Georgia.

The Prime Minister’s press office said following the meeting that Dion especially praised the constitutional reforms and the steps that the government is taking to boost the protection of human rights.

Kvirikashvili provided the Canadian official with detailed information regarding the Georgian government’s plan on the country’s economic development.

The pair expressed their desire to intensify trade-economic relations between Georgia and Canada. Kvirikashvili said that Georgia is open to Canadian companies and welcomes their involvement in the ongoing economic processes.

Kvirikashvili and Dion discussed regional challenges as well.
