32% more tourists visit Georgia in January 2017

Georgia welcomed 387,070 international travellers in January of 2017, show the latest data from the Georgian National Tourism Administration (GNTA).

While some travellers visited Georgia while in transit to a second destination, the number of travellers spending more than 24 hours in January of 2017 in compared to the previous year rose by 32.4 percent. In January of 2016, only 154,083 travellers visited Georgia.

The highest number of visitors who came to Georgia in January 2017 were from:

  1. Azerbaijan – 7.1 percent increase
  2. Turkey – 0.8 percent decrease
  3. Armenia – 31.4 percent increase
  4. Russia – 40.3 percent increase
  5. Ukraine – 28.2 percent increase

A positive trend was also maintained by visitors from the European Union:

  1. Lithuania - 47 percent increase
  2. Bulgaria - 32 percent increase
  3. Germany - 32 percent increase
  4. Poland - 25 percent increase
  5. United Kingdom - 23 percent increase

Exceptional growth in visitor numbers was recorded from the following countries:

  • Iran - 617 percent increase
  • Uzbek - 231 percent increase
  • India - 158 percent increase
  • Israel - 83 percent increase
  • China - 78 percent increase
  • Kazakhstan - 32 percent increase
  • Belarus - 25 percent increase
