Georgia’s national armwrestling team came away with a dozen medals from the World Armwrestling Championship 2017, with both men and women athletes representing the country claiming success.
Among the prize haul were five gold medals claimed by competitors of the team during the tournament that concluded in Budapest, Hungary on Monday.
The top honours were awarded to Levan Poghosiani (55kg category), Imeda Tchintcharauli (60kg category), Betkil Oniani and David Samushia (75kg) as well as Levan Saghinashvili (110+kg).

Poghosiani also claimed silver in the left-handed 55kg category, along with Zurab Tavberidze (80kg), Giorgi Tvaliashvili (85kg), Giorgi Rostomashvili (110kg) and Genadi Kvikvinia (110+kg).
The two bronze medals were collected by Elchin Binatov (85kg) and Irina Driaeva (95kg), the latter scoring the result among women competitors.
Arm wrestlers of the Georgian team were among over 1,200 athletes measuring up against each other at the event that launched on September 2.

The World Championship featured participants from more than 45 countries to mark its 39th edition.
The event ran along with the 20th edition of the Para-Armwrestling World Championship and was hosted at the MOM Sport Centre of Budapest.
