January-August 2017: Georgia hosts over 2.4 million tourists

Georgia hosted 1,080,449 international travellers in August of 2017, which was 27.4 percent increase compared to the same month of 2016, show data from the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This included:

  • 573,368 tourists* (which is 53.1 percent of all visitors)
  • 274,878 transits (which is 25.4 percent of all visitors)
  • 232, 203 other travellers (which is 21.5 percent of all visitors)

The highest number of visitors who came to Georgia in August of 2017 were from:

  • Armenia - 12 percent increase
  • Russia - 28 percent increase
  • Azerbaijan - 19 percent increase
  • Turkey - 42 percent increase
  • Ukraine - 4 percent increase
  • Iran - 85 percent increase

In January-August of 2017, a positive trend was also maintained by visitors from the European Union:

  • Germany - 32 percent increase
  • United Kingdom - 31 percent increase
  • France - 29 percent increase
  • Poland - 20 percent increase
  • Lithuania - 17 percent increase
  • Italy - 26 percent increase
  • Greece - 14 percent increase

A positive trend was observed from the Near East, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and America:

  • Israel – 40 percent increase
  • Kazakhstan – 17 percent increase
  • Uzbekistan - 110 percent increase
  • Belarus – 31 percent increase
  • United States – 27 percent increase

Meanwhile, during the first eight months of 2017 Georgia hosted 5,059,106 international travellers (18.9 percent increase), including 2,402,699 tourists (29.4 percent increase).
