United States (US) Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has sent a letter of condolence for a Georgian soldier killed last week in Afghanistan.
Junior sergeant Mdinari Bebiashvili, who had been serving in the Georgian Armed Forces since 2010, was killed in an attack during a joint patrol on Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on August 3.
Junior sergeant Bebiashvili is a hero and I want to express condolence to you, the sergeant’s family and the Georgian people”, Tillerson said in a letter sent to Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
In his letter Tillerson reiterated the statement that the US Vice President Mike Pence had made during his recent visit to Georgia that the US respects Georgia’s contribution to security in Afghanistan as a non-NATO member state.
