Georgia is exporting significantly more peaches this season to several foreign countries and mainly in Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
So far this year, Georgia’s peach exports were more than 44 percent higher than the same time in 2016, announced Georgia’s Ministry of Agriculture.
During the first seven months of this year Georgia exported 5,853 tonnes of peaches, while in the same period of last year Georgia exported 2,603 tonnes of the same fruit.
Georgia earned $2.2 million by exporting 5,853 tonnes of peaches abroad.
The five countries which imported the largest number of Georgian peaches this month were Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Ukraine.
Russia imported 76 percent of the peaches exported by Georgia, Azerbaijan imported 14 percent and Kazakhstan imported four percent.
To support the local peach harvest, a special group was created in Gurjaani, in Georgia’s Kakheti region, to help farmers prepare all necessary documents needed during the harvest, processing or export periods.
