Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who arrived in Georgia late yesterday with his family and a delegation, told Georgia’s president Giorgi Margvelashvili today that he feels at home in Georgia.

The atmosphere here is friendly. Our countries are striving for freedom and democracy as we are victims of Russia’s violence,” Poroshenko stated.

In a joint press conference after the meeting at Avlabari Presidential Residence in the capital of Tbilisi early in the morning Margvelashvili stressed the importance of Poroshenko’s visit and Russia’s negative role for the two nations.

Margvelashvili stated freedom and freedom of choice are key values for Georgia and Ukraine, which are strongly opposed by Russia.

You [Ukrainians] are now on the battlefield and see the same we experienced in the 90s and in the 2008 Russia-Georgia war. The confrontations reveal Russia’s interests, which brings destabilization, human tragedies, divisions and not unity,” Margvelashvili stated.

Margvelashvili stressed that despite Russia’s occupation of 20 percent of Georgian territories, the country has managed to resist the continued pressure from the northern neighbor.

Despite the situation we, Georgians, are focused on friendship and cooperation,” Margvelashvili stated.

The President stressed his Ukrainian counterpart’s visit "would more enhance Georgia-Ukraine ties.”
