Ambassadors-at-Large for Eastern Partnership visit Georgia

Ambassadors-at-Large for the Eastern Partnership from 11 European states are paying a four-day visit to Georgia to discuss the country’s reform progress and Western future.

The diplomats met with Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili in Tbilisi earlier today. They heard the details of Georgia’s four-point reform plan from the Prime Minister personally.

Kvirikashvili also focused on the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories and stressed that territorial integrity is the country’s number one priority, where the involvement of the EU and Western partners is crucial for the peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Lithuanian Ambassador-at-Large Jonas Paslauskas said that Georgia is a priority on the EU agenda and the number of diplomats currently visiting Georgia proves this. The delegation consists of the Ambassadors-at-Large from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Sweden and Slovakia.

During their visit from July 10-14, the Ambassadors are scheduled to meet with President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze, State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Victor Dolidze and Head of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament Sophia Katsarava. Apart from Prime Minister Kvirikashvili, they have already met with Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili. The focus of all held and scheduled meetings are the preparations and desirable outcomes of the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held on November 24.

While in Georgia, the Ambassadors will travel to the occupation line to observe the situation on the ground.
