Georgia sends condolences after deadly train crash in India

Georgian leaders are saddened by the tragic train accident that has claimed the lives of at least 39 people in India.

President Giorgi Margvelashvili took to Twitter to express his condolences.

"I express my deepest sorrow over the train derailed tragedy in India. My solidarity to the families of the victims and to the Indian people”, he wrote.

The Foreign Ministry of Georgia issued a written statement following the incident as well.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deep sorrow over the train crash in the Andhra Pradesh State of the Republic of India, leaving dozens dead and many others injured”, the statement read.

"In this difficult time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its solidarity with the Indian government and people, conveying its condolences to the families of crash victims and wishing a speedy recovery to those who have been injured in the accident”.

BBC reported that at least 39 people have been killed and dozens injured after a train derailed in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh on January 22. It is not yet clear what caused the train to derail.

The latest deadly incident comes two months after 146 people were killed when a passenger train was derailed in Kanpur, northern India, in one of the country's worst rail disasters.
