Georgian wrestler world’s number one in 61kg division

Current world champion Vladimer Khinchegashvili ranked first in the 57kg weight category, meaning he was world number one in this group.

Georgian Olympic, world and European champion Vladimer Khinchegashvili is the world’s number one wrestler in the 61kg weight category.

This was revealed after the United World Wrestling, the sport’s international governing body, published its latest world rankings.

Two other Georgians made it in the first 20 of the same weight category: runner up world champion Beka Lomtadze on the 8th place and Paris Grand Prix winner Shota Partenadze on the 20th place.

Meanwhile in the 125 weight category, Georgia’s big man, Olympic bronze holder Geno Petriashvili ranked second.

Khinchegashvili has been leading the world’s 57kg weight category since 2015. This year he gained some extra weight and moved to the 61kg category where he still ranked first.

Overall, eight Georgians made it in the world’s latest rankings. Others named on the list are:

  • European bronze holder Elizbar Odikadze (97kg) – 4th place
  • Two-time European champion Davit Marsagishvili (86kg) – 11th place
  • European bronze holder Zurab Iakobishvili (65kg) – 13th place
  • Under 23 European champion Avtandil Kenchadze (74kg) – 13th place
