The Presidential Palace in Tbilisi was illuminated in blue on Monday to mark the beginning of Autism Awareness Week in Georgia's capital.

Blue lights shone brightly on the front facade of the President’s official residence in Avlabari district after dusk in recognition of the week that started with World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday, April 2.

The move highlighted Georgia's participation in a global campaign to raise awareness of children with autism around the world.

Within the initiative President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and first lady Maka Chichua attended a charity performance at the Tbilisi State Opera earlier on Monday.

The charity performance featured performances by a group of renowned Georgian opera stars including Nino Machaidze, Nino Surguladze, Tamar Iveri, Zurab Sotkilava and Ketevan Kemoklidze and pianist David Aladashvili.

As well as the opera show, the evening also involved a charity exhibition by painter Rusudan Petviashvili at the Tbilisi State Opera theatre’s Blue Hall.
