Latvia is ready to share its experience to Georgia on how to get involved in economic and financial programs of the European Union (EU) and how to get the most benefits from the programs.

Latvia offered its assistance today after the country’s Minister of Economics Arvils Aseradens met Georgia’s Foreign Minister Mikhail Janelidze, who is currently in Latvia to pursue ways to deepen bilateral relations.

Developing trade and economic ties was a main priority for both countries, and both officials agreed to share relevant trade and economic experience with one another.

Regional projects currently underway and earmarked for the future were also discussed. The Georgian and Latvian officials stressed the importance of the New Silk Road project for the region as it would better connect Asia with Europe.

Janelidze introduced the Georgian Government’s new four-point reform package to boost the local economy, which included new tax benefits, infrastructure plans, governance reforms and an overhaul of the education system.

The Georgian official said his country was also implementing a number of ambitious reforms to move the country forward on its European integration process. The reforms aimed to fully integrate Georgia to Europe’s economic system.

Georgia and Lativa enjoyed positive relations which have strengthened in recent years. Aseradens noted trade turnover between Georgia and Latvia had increased by 10 percent in 2015 compared to 2014.
