Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has congratulated Christians who are celebrating Easter today.

Kvirikashvili posted his congratulatory message on his official Facebook page.

"Crucifixion and resurrection of Christ is related to escaping of people from their sins and universal renewal,” the Prime Minister said.

"Easter is celebration of life and this is why it is so special for each Christian.”
"May all of you be happy and successful.”

Most of the Christian world celebrates Easter today. Georgia’s Catholic Christians are among them.

There are about 50,000 Catholics in Georgia. This is about two percent of the total population. Most of them live in the southern part of the country, where Catholicism spread back in the 13th Century.

Meanwhile most of Georgia’s population (about 84 percent) are Orthodox Christian and this year they will celebrate Easter slightly later – on May 1.
