Georgia’s seaside town Batumi is known among local and foreign holiday makers as a jewel in the Black Sea that offers warm sea, great weather, delicious food and a bustling nightlife.

The resort town is Georgia’s top tourist destination in summer but this morning everyone who woke up in Batumi witnessed something that proved the resort was the best place for this festive season too.

Along with the beautiful snowy views, Batumi offers locals and visitors to take part in illuminated celebrations of the holidays.

Tonight at Batumi's Era Square, a mega show will take place, featuring award-winning mambo artist Lou Bega, Georgian singers Sopo Khalvashi and Nino Katamadze and the band Young Georgian Lolitaz.

A two-week program for marking the holidays was launched in the city on December 25, with the Batumi Tourist Information Centre announcing a program of events and activities open for public.

The occasions included Christmas fair and artist performances at more than a dozen locations in Batumi as well as surrounding towns.

Streets of the city were decorated and illuminated for the festivities while a special Christmas tree was also in place to bring cheer to locals and tourists alike.

On the background of the decorated locations, artists and bands all entertain the public on the city's central areas.

More than a dozen performers were planned to take to the stage throughout the celebratory program, while the special fair will offer handmade items and local sweets to visitors of the city.

That's where the sea meets snow.

Visiting children will also find occasions for entertainment, with the city's Piazza Batumi location, public schools, the Gonio Fortress and other spots offering them special activities.

The festive program will conclude in Batumi on January 7.
