Nine Georgians among world’s best wrestlers

Nine Georgian athletes are among the world’s best freestyle wrestlers.

United World Wrestling, the international governing body of wrestling, yesterday updated its world ranking reflecting the changing performances of individual sportsmen.

There were eight weight categories and each consisted of the world’s 20 best wrestlers in that particular weight group.

Current world champion Vladimer Khinchegashvili ranked first in the 57kg weight category, meaning he was ranked world number one in this group.

World bronze medalist Geno Petriashvili was number two in the 125kg category.

Other Georgians who made it on the list were:

• Sandro Aminashvili – ranked 3rd in the 86kg weight category;
• Zurab Iakobishvili – ranked 10th in the 70kg weight category;
• Elizbar Odikadze – ranked 10th in the 97kg weight category;
• Jumber Kvelashvili – ranked 13th in the 74kg weight category;
• Davit Tlashadze - ranked 13th in the 70kg weight category;
• Beka Lomtadze – ranked 14th in the 61kg weight category; and
• Davit Marsagishvili – ranked 17th in the 86kg weight category.
