Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili has promised this year’s Parliamentary Elections in Georgia will be held in the highest, European standards.

The pledge was applauded by Georgia’s European Union (EU) partners, who said they had high hopes for fair, transparent and open elections.

At a Governmental meeting in capital Tbilisi today, PM Kvirikashvili summarised his recent visit to Brussels, Belgium where he met several top EU officials.

Kvirikashvili stressed it was crucial for his Government to make sure the upcoming elections met all European standards.

It is important to imbue Georgia’s political environment with this feeling so that every player in the election field meets these standards,” said the PM, adding Georgia’s European partners had high hopes for the country in this regard.

The Georgian official said his meetings in Brussels were "necessary and timely”, and comments made by European Union (EU) officials reaffirmed Europe’s support for Georgia.

We provided the European Commission with extensive information about developments in Georgia and reforms stemming from the Association agenda.
I had detailed discussions of these issues with President of the European Council Donald Tusk, European Commission President [Jean-Claude] Junker and European Commissioners.  We convinced them that Georgia’s reforms under the Association agenda are in full swing and no obstacle stands in the way of this process,” Kvirikashvili said.

The Georgian Prime Minister held high-level meetings in Brussels, Belgium on February 9 and 10.
