Georgia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) says 14 parties have addressed the agency to undergo mandatory registration for the upcoming October Parliamentary Elections.
The CEC said only three parties were currently registered while othwr parties were going through the registration process, which involved the examination of several documents by CEC staff.
The documentation must include a party official registration paper, its regulations, signatures of no less than 1,000 members of the party and other similar papers.
The parties which have already been registered were the People’s Authority, Union Recovery Justice Voice of the People: Lord is Our Righteousness and Zviad’s way-with the name of God.
The parties which have appealed to CEC to gain registration were some of the minor parties and were also less known to the public.
Georgia’s Prime Minister and the President agreed the parliamentary race will take place on October 8 while parties can begin their pre-election campaigning on June 8.
The CEC will grant numbers to political parties 30 days before the election date. In order to get a number and earn the right to take part in the elections, parties must be registered by the CEC.
The CEC has appealed to all political parties to timely register for the elections.
