The Swedish government will support Georgia to safely and effectively implement a radioactive waste management plan.

Today the Ministry of Environment Protection of Georgia signed a cooperation agreement with the Swedish Radiation Regulatory body, which will allocate €35,000 (97,000 GEL) to Georgia to adopt a 15-year Strategy and Action Plan regarding radioactive waste management.

The Strategy will be drafted jointly by Georgian and Swedish specialists in line with high European standards.

Once the specialists analysed the current situation in Georgia and how it managed radioactive waste products, future activities will be planned to ensure radioactive materials were safely recycled or stored.

The Radioactive Waste Management National Strategy will be approved by the Georgian Government before January 4, 2017.
