Georgia’s President attends high-level international conference in Turkmenistan

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has participated in opening of the Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan today.

The conference, held with support of the United Nations (UN), is being attended by more than 80 international delegations, the leaders of multiple countries, and heads of international organisations, including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier.

"Georgia’s participation in such conferences is very important as this once again stresses Georgia’s role as a link between Europe and Asia,” said Giorgi Abdushelashvli, head of the Administration of Georgia’s President.

Margvelashvili landed in Ashgabat late last evening and a special welcoming ceremony honoured the Georgian President at the airport.

As a part of the conference, the Georgian President will deliver a speech at the event and will later hold bilateral meetings with the UN Secretary General, President of Turkmenistan and President of Afghanistan.
