Georgia’s Public Service Hall has today launched a new service offering special gift packs to all financially challenged parents who register the birth of their newborn.

The new 'Welcome' scheme will see all socially vulnerable families receive a special starter kit when they register their new babies at any of the country’s 19 Public Service Halls.

The gift packs contain products worth about 60 GEL (about $25 USD/€23) that include:

  • Newborn baby essentials
  • Baby care products
  • Vitamin supplements recommended by UNICEF

Gift packs will be given to parents when they visit a Public Service Hall to get their baby’s birth certificate.

The new scheme was announced and launched today by Georgia’s Minister of Justice Thea Tsulukiani.

She thanked those who sponsored the gift packs and said she hoped more partners would join the program so it could grow larger over time and offer more goods to cash-strapped parents to help them with their new baby.

Statistics show there are currently more than 100,000 children are nutrient deficient. Ensuring children get enough nutrients in their first few years of life is imperative, as it becomes harder to overcome a food deficiency after the first two years of life.
