President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelahsvili has wished Georgians happy and victorious New Year and highlighted that it was the obligation of the new generation to build the country our ancestors were dreaming about.
In his New Year address voiced from the Freedom Square in capital Tbilisi the President stressed that in 2016 Georgia celebrated the 25th anniversary of gaining independence.
During the 25 years our generation and our previous generations managed to bring the country to the current condition.”
Our major aim is to transform independence we have into freedom,” the President said.

Defining his words Margvelahsvili stressed that a free nation meant people free from negative emotions and hatred, the nation that could forgive mistakes and live with love.
According to him if managing this mood Georgians would be able to better reveal their talented and special nature.
Prior to his address from the New Year concert in central Tbilisi the President, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Georgian Armed Forces (GAF), arrived to the Logistical Centre of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia and congratulated on the celebration to the GAF staff and Georgian soldiers serving in international peacekeeping missions with the Minister of Defence Tinatin Khidasheli.
The President stressed that Georgia was "proud of its soldiers” inside and outside the country.
What you do is heroism; heroism is not anything new for Georgians as it is in our genes. However, these genes need to be continued in each generation and your efforts need to be highly appreciated,” Margvelashvili said.

Speaking about the Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan international mission Margvelahsvili stated that he conversed with the Afghan President several weeks ago and he thanked the Georgian official for Georgian servicemen’s merit in the foreign country.
This appreciation was not only because of our military support, the reaction was also the outcome of Georgian soldiers’ special attitude to locals,” the President said.
Margvelashvili wished the soldiers health and happily return to the homeland.
