Georgia's National Water Polo Team celebrated its first ever win over Turkey at the ongoing European Championships in Belgrade, Serbia today.
The Georgian team triumphed in the Ranking Round match with a score of 12-11 thanks to a late goal by Marko Jelaca 42 seconds from the final whistle.
Jelaca, of Croatian descent, scored for Georgia after Turkey clawed back four points to level the score.

During today’s match seven Georgian players scored; Mikheil Baghaturia netted three goals.
The final score was historic for Georgia as it was the team’s first ever victory over their near neighbours.
The Georgian team are competing in the European national competition for the second time and will play its next game on January 22 against Slovakia.
The game will determine which nation finishes 13th in the international competition.
