Georgia’s Minister of Defence Tinatin Khidasheli is in Paris, France to meet her French counterpart and discuss Georgia-France military relations.

Today’s meeting comes less than a month before the NATO Warsaw Summit in Poland, at which Georgia is hoping for closer cooperation with the 28 member state Alliance.

This afternoon Georgia’s Defence Minister met France’s Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at a reception his residence before attending an official bilateral meeting at the French Defence Ministry.

The existing defence cooperation between Georgia and France was high on the agenda of today’s meeting, and the two leaders also spoke about how to enhance this bilateral partnership further.

Afterwards Khidasheli told reporters she had discussed her country’s expectations of the Warsaw Summit, set to run from July 8-9 in Poland, as well as bilateral Georgia-French cooperation and future plans.

The close cooperation between Georgia and France in aerial defence and in the Air Force was also noted at the Paris meeting.

The cooperation between France and Georgia is in an active phase. The Georgian public knows that the assistance from France in developing our aerial defence and aviation fields is tangible," Khidasheli said after the meeting in Paris today.

Georgia's Defence Ministry said Le Drian would soon visit Georgia in a planned return visit and attend events to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Sachkhere Mountain Training School, founded in 2006 with the help of French experts.
