A Ukrainian high official has presented Ukraine’s National Security Strategy and stated that NATO membership is "the only option” for Ukraine to save its territorial integrity.
The Secretary of Ukraine’s National Defence and Security Council Alexander Turchinov said NATO and EU member countries were Ukraine’s priority partners. The list of Ukraine’s close allies also included Poland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Romania, Sweden and Australia.
Specifically, European and Euro Atlantic integration was the top priority of Ukraine’s foreign and domestic policy.
The Council’s Secretary named high level of corruption and infective system of governance, economy crises, lack of finance and the poor level of living of the citizens of Ukraine as the main threats for the state.
Turchinov underlined the National security strategy was an open document and it would become the basis for development of all of Ukraine’s future military technical programs.
He also emphasized that the aerospace intelligence system project would give the Ukrainian militaries the possibility to see all of the country’s territory.
The document described the Ukrainian Action Plan for National Security until 2020.
