Hundreds of Ukrainian refugees who fled their homeland will receive housing in Georgia.

Georgia is offering housing to about 500 refugees from eastern Ukraine who were forced from their homes by ongoing conflict.

Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia Sozar Subari said all people who had fled their home and country would be eligible to receive asylum in Georgia under accelerated circumstances.

"About 500 Ukrainians are seeking asylum in Georgia and the Government decided to give them housing by accelerated procedure. I also want to say that Georgia is among the nations who are the largest contributors of medical and other assistance to Ukraine,” Subari said.

Georgia sent more than 40 million UAH ($2.5 million USD) in humanitarian aid to Ukraine since July 2014 to assist the most vulnerable people affected by the continuing fighting in eastern Ukraine.

In September 2014 Georgia hosted about 130 children affected by the crisis in Ukraine to a holiday in Georgia where they could rest, relax and enjoy the sights and culture of Georgia.
