Georgia’s coastal town Batumi and Egypt’s resort town Sharm el-Sheikh are establishing closer ties.

A Georgian delegation from the Adjarian Government visited Egypt today and spoke about ways to deepen ties and encourage bilateral tourism.

The Georgian delegation consisted of Batumi Mayor Giorgi Ermakov, his deputy Aleksandre Mitiashvili and Adjarian Agriculture Minister Zaur Futkaradze.

Within the visit they met with South Sinai Governor and Sharm el-Sheikh top officials, as well as representatives of Egyptian business circles.

In addition, a visit of Egyptian businessmen to Batumi was planned for the near future as a way to contribute to the further development of cooperation between the two towns.

Ways to deepen trade and economic cooperation, including development of relations in the agricultural field, were also discussed. The sides exchanged information about the types of agricultural goods produced in Egypt and Georgia; to which the Egyptian side voiced its interest in possibly importing Georgian tea and meat.

Moreover, the sides agreed on establishing a special arrangement of Georgia plants in the international park of Sharm el-Sheikh, and in return, establishing an Egyptian plants corner in Batumi.
