The Foreign Minister of Romania spent part of today visiting a Georgian village located near the occupation line as part of his official visit to Georgia.
Romania’s Bogdan Aurescu spent time at Khurvaleti village and saw the impact of Russia’s aggression on the local population.
"I wanted to see the result of the occupation. It is sad to see the installation of barbed wire fences, which is basically cutting off the access of people from one side to their properties on the other side,” Aurescu said.
The Romanian official arrived in Georgia earlier yesterday. While here he will take part in the international seminar on the preparation of the Annual National Program (ANP) for 2015.
After visiting Khurvaleti village, the Romanian official said he recognised Georgia’s territorial integrity and condemned Russia’s occupation of Georgian territory.
"Yesterday I met the Romanian contingent from the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM). We have 38 Romanian citizens working with the EUMM – we are the largest EU member state contingent [and] we will continue to participate in the mission because we can see the mission is very important for keeping the situation stable here on the ground by monitoring from this side what happens,” Aurescu said.
"We will continue, together with our partners from the European Union, to support the peaceful resolution of this conflict,” he added.
