The cold weather is set to hit the entire country in the coming days.

The weather forecast said temperatures would significantly drop in western and eastern Georgia for the next three days until January 11. From January 12 the weather is forecast to improve, experts said.

Traffic movement was also facing restrictions at various road sections thorough the country as a result of heavy snow.

The Pasanauri-Gudauri highway was partly opened yesterday but has now been fully opened to cars however buses and heavy vehicles are still restricted from travelling along this road.

On the Mleta-Gudauri and Kobi Stepantsminda roads, cars were only allowed to pass along these roads if they used tyre chains.

Traffic movement is still prohibited in the Ninotsminda region on the highway connecting Georgia and Armenia, as the weather in that area was particularly challenging.

Certain restrictions have been imposed for vehicles travelling along the Rikoti Pass. The road was available for all vehicles except trailers and semi-trailers.

Heavy snowfall in recent days has caused minor upset in the Svateni region. Svaneti Governor Kakha Zhorzholiani said roads had been closed and electricity wires had fallen as a result of a week of non-stop snowfall.

Latest information stated power supply had been restored to most residents of Mestia, Svaneti however 220 subscribers still remained without electricity.

On another note, a storm caused a minor incident at Poti Port.
