The Georgian Government is taking measures to assist people affected by the heavy snow in the mountainous Georgia.
Bad weather and a heavy snow causes the troubles at the Georgia’s main roads and all governmental services are on high alert.
The most difficult weather conditions are at the Dariali Gorge, the North- Eastern Georgia (Gudauri, Kobi, Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), Larsi) and in Ninotsminda region in the Southern Georgia at the border with Armenia.
The Roads Department mobilised the heavy technique in all affected regions but it is impossible to clean roads everywhere due to the heavy snow and the avalanche danger.
Electricity supply is already restored to the village Ananuri and Pasanauri, a small town 33 kilometers away from Gudauri ski resort.
Ministry of Internal Affairs sent the food and the drinking water supply to the Dariali Gorge to help people stuck in the cars on the road and also to provide Gudauri ski resort.
Crisis management centres has been established in all affected areas to coordinate the work of the local municipalities, state services and Ministries.
Rescue work continues at the Georgia-Armenia border in the Ninotsminda region, where about 600 people stuck in cars on the road due to storm and the heavy snow.
200 of them including elderlies and children were transferred to the safe place by the Ministry of Internal Affairs earlier today.
Traffic movement is totally prohibited at the highway in the Dariali Gorge starting from the Pasanauri (33 km away from Gudauri ski resort) up to Kazbegi customs check-point at the border with Russia.
A heavy snowfall blocked the work of the Georgian customs services at the Georgian-Russian and Georgian-Armenian borders.
