Employing Georgian sailors in the Turkish maritime industry is simplifying thanks to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Georgian and Turkish sides.

The agreement, which details the mutual recognition of certificates for sailors training and certification standards, was signed yesterday by Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency and Turkey’s Maritime and Inland Waters Regulation.

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy evaluated signing of the MoU as "the most important historical event” in the relations of the two countries.

The signing of the MoU created the legal basis for Georgian sailors to find jobs at about 600 Turkish ships engaged in the international sailing.

MoU was signed in Turkey during the Georgian delegation’s visit to the country.

Meanwhile, Georgia signed the similar Memorandum with Korea in March this year, which created conditions for Georgian sailors to employed in Korean maritime industry.
